Honestly any of the gals that aren’t the worst are my faves 😗😗 but my top picks (in no particular order) are as follows:

- Nefertari Vivi: Damsel in distress? She’s the damsel CAUSING distress! Alabasta is one of the best arcs/sagas and Vivi is the heart behind all of it! Lover her defiance, feistiness, inability to shut her yap sometimes (🤣), everything about her is lovely! (Her and Jackie are spending IWD getting on Morgan's every last nerve and sipping tea)

- Nami: Our very first girlboss, we pledge allegiance to ye 🫡🫡!! She set the precedent for good female character writing in OP with her complexity and tragedy while also being a silly goofball! Has never not slayed an outfit nor an enemy!! Plus she’s one half of the ultimate best friends duo in the entire series with Usopp!!

- Nico Robin: THEE weird girl representation!! Big old brain to think with, big old eyes to stare at you with blinking, big old mouth to say the most unsettling things! Was fighting for my life trying not to like her during the Miss All Sunday era but I couldn’t stop myself 😫😫!! Her DF is in my top 3 DF's I would want (though I do not have her gracefulness 😭😭)

- Carrot: My daughter #1! In a world where Vivi isn’t the final Strawhat I’d totally be cool with Carrot joining the party! Her arc from WCI to Wano was amazing and her bond with Pedro broke my heart every-time Toei decided to run that flashback back 😭😭! Without her we wouldn’t have gotten that iconic introduction to Sulong! I think about her art of the Strawhats almost daily!

- Charlotte Pudding: My daughter #2! Oh how she broke my heart during WCI😭😭 aND THEN SHE GOT NAPPED BY BLACKBEARD?? CAN MY GIRL CATCH A BREAK MY LORD?!? SHE'S LITERALLY JUST A GIRL!!! If/When Garp escapes/breaks out/is rescued he BETTER take Pudding with him!!

- Boa Hancock: so Pari fun fact, I was so excited to get to Impel Down because I wanted to see Ponytail Buggy that I watched the entirety of Amazon Lily in one day…which was a horrible mistake because I was crying so bad about Boa and her sister's backstory I couldn’t function. I didn’t dislike Boa beforehand but since then I have been a staunch Boa Hancock lover and defender. She has done nothing wrong ever and if she did they deserved it.

-Charlotte Brûlée: Just like me forreal. My brother (who was pushing me to get into One Piece for ages) told me there’d be a character who’s basically me in WCI and it's Brûlée! Very tall, very gangly, off-putting, says anything literally anytime, she couldn’t get more me if she tried! You could say…it was like…LOOKING IN A MIRROR!

Today is my husband’s Peter David’s 68th Birthday. I don’t know where I am giving to visit him but I will today either in the hospital or the rehab center.

Peter is a writer of stuff. He is known for his comic book work, novels, and essays.

Comics: some of his achievements, wrote the Hulk for fourteen years, he created the Aquaman that Jason Momoa played in the films, created Spider-man 2099, the smart Hulk was his invention, X-factor, wrote Young Justice both the comic book and the animated series.

Tie in novels: probably best known for his Star Trek novels esp. Imzadi, Q-in-law, and the New Frontier with a character named Burgoyne 172 who is neither and both male and female. He did a number of movie novelizations for all kinds of franchises including Babylon 5, Marvel, DC, among others.

Novels: Fearless, Tigerheart, Howling Mad, Artful, the King Arthur series, Sir Apropos of Nothing and a whole bunch more.

Essays: wrote But I Digress for the Comic Buyers Guide, Op Ed pieces for the New York Times, and for his web log

Peter writes, he once told me, because he has to. He has so many ideas and what ifs running around in his head. We are working to get dictation to work for him.

Almost two years our lives were upended when Peter has a series of strokes, a heart attack, more strokes and a nasty Mersa virus that played havoc with his body. He is surviving with some physical limitations but the mighty writers brain works. I have been his caretaker since the previous strokes for over ten years and during that time he has developed diabetes and end stage renal failure for which he is on dialysis.

We still love each other very much and have held to our marriage vows close to our hearts

Wahhh!!! I'm so excited to send these out in the coming month or two! (The fulfillment period might have to be extended into August because I didn't think... I'd get more than 25 orders but here I am with 71 currently... So I do ask for patience!!) I'm so glad to hear that though, because in a pretty male dominated series and space, I just really really want to draw characters that I don't see nearly as much and I want to handle them with care. I'm working on the idea for my next big project, and I think it will actually focus on celebrating women and girls in OP and flowers because that symbolism means a lot to me, so I hope that'll resonate! Thanks so much for being here and for the support! 💛: What is a popular ship you just can't get behind, and why?

in all honesty, i will back most ships but the one i cannot is drarry. like i get it, theres all this fun evidence but who tf cares. its kind of bland, especially after falling down into the depths tomarrymort and i actually despise 8th year fics which seem to make up a huge portion of it. drarry fans can be very very insufferable (speaking as a former drarry shipper) and i could not stand to be in the same room as more than a few at any one time

also wolfstar. i cant believe i nearly forgot how much i despise it. remus and sirius are not good for each other, and everyone seems so obsessed over it. plus anytime i try to read a marauders fic its just there which puts me off a lot of that part of the fandom in general. i cant stand it even if its a side pairing — the mischaracterisation, the blatant suppression of sirius' personality, changing him into the uwu boy and remus into the badass one (atyd, my op). they definitely were not together before harry's 3rd year and even then i dont think they were actually together. i lowkey hate remus too. hes kind of mid

💚: What does everyone else get wrong about your favorite character?

my fave character is harry and the movies did a world of damage to him. they made him boring and flat and so now everyone thinks hes like that. hes not — hes so clever and hes vicious and hes such a complicated person dealing with so much shit. and often ppl make his abuse worse, but thats not the point. neglect and starvation are also abuse, it doesn't have to be overtly physical. it downplays over forms of abuse (i myself have an emotionally abusive relationship w my mother). i hate when people make harry weak in the face of all this — he is so strong and amazing

💖: What is your biggest unpopular opinion about the series?

that wolfstar didnt love each other lmao. i honestly dont know what counts as an unpopular opinion. mainly, i think at kings cross when harry dies, it should have been lily to greet him — dumbledore is obviously death and he was the wrong choice to represent the narrative closure. or if not lily, at least someone like sirius. also the characterisation of death in fics; death should be a woman! or at least not portrayed as a man all the time. im just obsessed with that idea. you get it in art/writing sometimes (e.g. Death by Janis Rozentāls (1897) / "There is something female about being dead," Joyce Carol Oates) and it makes me feral.

more unpopular opinons: i dont think regulus was a good guy, i think peter deserved better from everyone around him and the fandom, voldemort was never exorcised as a child and hes far more interesting than parts of the fandom think, the marauders were really bad bullies and SA'd snape but theyre also allowed to grow up — the two arent mutually exclusive, none of the characters are particularly good and none of them fully evil either (nuance ffs), remus is a coward and i hate him a lot

To Be Hero X Review

I was highly skeptical of this donghua. Mostly due to not being a big fan of hero-related and action anime and the rapidly changing art styles seen in the trailer.

I was pleasantly surprised.

You may know that To Be Hero X is produced by Studio LAN and directed by Li Haolin, ie. the same as LINK CLICK. I was still doubtful, however just from the opening you can see the connections with our favorite donghua and... Erm... Emma-style fate.

It jumps right into plot and the pace is quick. It's very character-driven, in each episodes we discover the character motives and how overwhelmingly pressured and upset they are about their situations - it's not just about the realities of being a hero but the confines and loss to become one. These scenes remind me of Cheng Xiaoshi's dives but with no where near the depth and heartache.

(Why does Nice's face and expression remind me so much of Chalamet's from Dune? I think it's the jaw and cheekbones).

Pst. Nice and his bff are a black/white duo. The perfectionist above has blue eyes. His bff has more yellowy with shoulder length hair and half a messy fringe which reminds us of a certain shiguang duo not to mention a their doomed fate...

The animation style changes are smartly placed on key moments, usually making the action scenes appear faster and more intense, honestly quite a nice effect.

(Animation is also the USP making the series stand out and engage us. I preferred the smoothness and really, just how toned down these 2D sections were than to say, Spiderman. Miles Morales fans don't kill me, no hate on the Marvel Movie).

While the overall morals of the donghua feel too well-trod and in the face for my liking, I have to admit the series is much better than I anticipated and I recommend you give it a shot (or maybe that's just so we can cheer on our good-looking goofy marketing guy).

I also felt it to be a tad sexualised on the women, only a little - you won't notice if you're into basically any other anime - but coming from Link Click and spyxfamily I did notice it. Or maybe that's just landlady's bosslady's fashion sense and this society's trends?

I also felt Moon, a female main, to be a little sidelined into the damsel role, but she knew that and it's a big part of her arc so I'll let it slide.

The intros and outros are pretty good with some rather creative moments, such as the head first vs feet first falling, and are unlikely to be skipped. The dystopian vibe is definitely something too.

Now the 2nd best part (after just how sweet and sincere our protagonist is. He reminds me of CXS) is that CHENG XIAOSHI'S ENGLISH VA APPEARS IN EP 2. Haha. No it's got to be the references to LC in the op and ed. That vortex part with the claw machine hand and hooded Tianchen? Bam. Did I mention falling off buildings, not once but twice?

7/10. Deserves more than a 6 for impressing me but an 8 is for something more to my tastes. (Yes I am a critic 😭 and unfortunately almost everyone who's been a lit student cannot escape this fate, but I will still cheer with you.)

Edit: I look forward to rewatching this donghua to get it's deeper messages. It moves too quickly for me to get them! The Chinese dub is better than English because of the humor, and hello QIAN JIN'S VA IS X??? The characters look alike too... XU SHANSHAN'S VA IS LUCKY CYAN (a perfect fit really, they give off similar vibes...). Quite a few others too!

WAIT YALL AINT TELL ME THIS HAD A SAWANO OP??!! With a cute female lead?? Bitch you know this top 5 already 😭 I’m a simple man. Nah but this was fun as hell. We’ve had a ton of detective series lately, but I love how this one doesn’t take itself too seriously. Reiko and Kazamatsuri are a riot!

Very fun first case here. I’m really excited to see what the twist is because no way it’s as straight forward as it seems. The girls had beef with Mizuho, but they surely wouldn’t have tried to kill her in broad daylight. I’m thinking either Mizuho staged this or someone else is trying to exploit the situation and put them against each other.

Fucking died laughing watching Reiko and Kazamatsuri use process of elimination on the suspects, most unserious detectives ever man. Of COURSE it’s the Butler who’s actually the best detective in the room. Given he damn near narrated the whole first episode, he surely saw what happened. The suspense is killing me, give me the next ep!

Also, the art style is soooo good. Reiko is pretty af, she slays in her formal dress fit and the detective suit. Get you someone who can do both! I also just peeped the artist for the novels is Nakamura Yusuke who does the art for my fave band, Asian Kung Fu Generation and Tatami Galaxy!

It really is not just annoying, but also somewhat sad, that IDW characters can never have a meaty role without shamelessly upstaging a game character. It's the ultimate play of insecurity.

Tangle gets touted as the Sonic Female of All Time while the crewmembers drag the game females through the mud.

Whisper gets randomly fawned over by Silver and Jet of all guys.

Lanolin humiliates Silver and treats him like a child.

Rough and Tumble are too much for Cream the OP to handle.

Starline was hyped up for an extended period as Eggman's superior (no, his final fate did not undo sitting through his agonizing "Sonic VS Eggman is routine" soapboxing).

Surge is being hyped up for even longer as the most badass villain and the most badass character period, despite having absolutely nothing of merit to show for it.

Is it really that hard to find a middle ground? I get you want your character(s) to do big things and be a legitimate part of the cast instead of sitting in the background with their thumbs twiddling, but this is not the way to do it. Trip was only recently introduced to the series, and she found her place just fine. She didn't need to effortlessly beat up Sonic in concept art in order to earn her stripes. She didn't need her creators to brag that she would improve Forces through her mere presence in order to cement her value.

Look. I talk a lot about Trudy. I talk a lot about her role in my fic, her interactions, her dynamics, her abilities, her quirks, all that good stuff. I take her role in the story quite seriously, and in an age where it's become taboo to have your OC do literally anything with the game cast (because overcorrection), I've stuck to my guns and made her a big part of the fic.

But - and this is a big but - none of this comes at the cost of the other characters, or the story as a whole. Sonic is still Sonic, and acts as you'd expect from him. Tails is still Tails, and isn't dismissed by the narrative as a mere sidekick to prop up Trudy as the "true" hero by comparison. Amy is still her bubbly self, not morphed into a Sally clone. Cream is still capable, despite her youth and innocence, and her bond with Trudy doesn't reduce her to literal baby. Eggman treats Trudy no differently from the rest of the cast, and he sure as hell doesn't show any fear at the prospect of facing her. Stellar is not little more than The Trudy Show: it's Sonic's latest adventure in a new land that Trudy happens to be tagging along for, and how he leaves an impression on her. Just like Unleashed did with Chip, and Secret Rings did with Shahra, among other examples.

Even Sonudis, for as Never Going To Happen In Canon For Very Obvious Reasons as it is, is still made with the mentality of not only what Sonic himself is actually like in canon, but the others too. It's not a shallow bait that exists solely to exist, it's something I took seriously in regards to how it could potentially work without sacrificing Sonic's official characterization. Is it a fanfic cliche? Is it self-indulgent? Maybe, but writing fanfic in general is inherently self-indulgent. The sooner you accept that, the better. But as fanfic-y as some concepts may be, I still try to portray them as naturally and as faithfully as I can in respect to the games that spawned this franchise. That includes not reducing Sonic to a lap dog with no independence or backbone.

You can make your character important, and even give them a risky role if you're daring, without disrespecting the game cast and what they contribute to the franchise.

His scowl turning into a grin. He tugs at your covers. Pulling them down. You tug them back up. Holding them to your chest. Tugging them firmer now, not even using a fraction of his strength. He pulls them from your hands and slowly down your body.

Uncovering skin inch by inch. The cold air causing goosebumps. He licks his bottom lip when you're fully revealed. Wearing only the lacy set of lingerie. Dropping your blankets on the ground. He stands up straight.

Hand going to his erection. He's straining against his slacks. He palms himself, soft and slow. Allowing himself a moment of pleasure as he looks down at you.

So, ya'll may be wondering as to who in the kark this girl is? Welp, do ya'll remember my pieces of my clone trooper Shrike? This is Shrike, they are the one and the same. Now bear with me, I know that some may think that is stupid and doesn't make sense. So I will be explaining that in a sec. I have been waiting to go into detail about Shrike's background and info till I have their face design, and such, done. So now is the time to get into what is my cringe worthy thoughts of my clone trooper Sonna. HORRAY!

Background:

A long while back, the Kaminoans were doing a series of tests to perfect their decommissioning tactics. Using the cloning material of REDACTED, they cloned a total of 666 test subjects.

They were not given increased aging as that was still in the works

Each subject was killed off, one by one, till they got to the youngest of them, EDC-666. At that point, the kaminoans had just about lost interest and the last clone was left to rot, forgotten, in a crypto pod.

Fastforward to about 9-10 years before the start of the clone wars, A kaminoan assistant happened upon the forgotten clone. Bringing up their finding to the head scientists, it was decided after much heated debate that the random subject would be used for a side training experiment.

Thus, EDC-666 became ECT-666.

Training:

It was decided that ECT-666 would be trained in assassination and black ops training.

Most of their weapon training specialized with melee weapons for quieter executions.

ECT-666's favoritism of longer blades and throwing knives did not go unnoticed.

Due to their small size, they exceled at stealth and hiding.

As a result of ECT-666's obvious difference in appearance to the other clones, they were trained separately, and not permitted to be seen by anyone else but the kaminoans and the trainers.

A good portion of their usual trainers showed disgust towards ECT-666. Many interactions left them with bruises or at worst a broken bone or two.

This led to ECT-666 having to learn to see to their own wounds, in fear of the Kaminoans seeing them as a damaged product.

In addition, a chunk of ECT-666's training followed the ARC-trooper programs. So, they were unofficially, partially trained as an arc.

Physical Apperance:

At the start of the clone wars, ECT-666 is roughly 15 years of age, standing at exactly 5'0.

They are of female origin, are naturally blond, with blue-green eyes (Hazel?).

Receives during their time in the war several scars; one traces across their right eye and nose, an acid burn scar on the left cheek that resulted in lack of said cheek, spiderweb like scars on their right arm from blacking and explosion, and various other small scars here and there. A singular scar runs around their left shoulder, was a result of a training session that went too far.

Mental State:

Unknown to the Kaminoans, ECT-666 has some of the memories of the other clones like them from the decommissioning tests. Most of said memories were of their deaths and the harsh treatments they received. They most come from nightmares and when they get a sense of deja vu. ECT-666 has no idea as to why, but they don't let it slip.

Due to the collective trauma; of watching clones being decommissioned, grueling training, and somehow having a vast number of the memories of the other clones of REDACTED. ECT-666 suffers from PTSD, depression, anxiety, and stress.

ECT-666 most likely has ADHD that they inherited from their template. Additionally, they are semi on the autistic scale.

Has zero self-restraint to jump headfirst into danger.

Ranma 1/2 2024 - early thoughts

Soooooo, we are up to episode 5 of the new Ranma 1/2 from studio MAPPA. And how am I feeling about this? I'm enjoying it! That's right, as a silly martial arts/romance/zany humor series it so far is delivering decently.

I was completely nervous about yet another older series getting a reboot, but this one has already cleared my low expectations. I wasn't sure how I felt with the more pastel/muted color palette from the previews but after a few episodes, I like it.

First off, they decided to keep the series set in the 1980s which means we didn't need to have the full technology upgrade - which another one of Rumiko Takahashi's famous series would completely fall apart with. That's right, Maison Ikkoku wouldn't work with ubiquitous cellphone/texting. They also leverage the 80s decor/aesthetic well, reflecting it through the normal clothing and outfits along with Akane's bedroom.

I first read Ranma 1/2 long before watching the original anime so I'm less attached to the original anime. Sure, it was fine and the first OP will live rent free in my head until I die. I appreciated how the remake made sure to keep the feel of the original OP even with a much more smoothly animated version of the martial arts moves that Ranma and Akane did in the original OP and expanded it to contain Ryoga and Shampoo which was great.

Therefore, unlike other series that I watched a lot more, I couldn't even do a one to one comparison of the original version and the 2024 one if I wanted to.

I have to admit the family friendly censorship of Ranma's frequently carefree attitude towards his female form seems a bit odd as a manga fan. I get it, I'm not some fanboy getting my knickers in a twist over it - more like it matches the self-censorship that is omnipresent with shirtless males in anime. I honestly think the last time I recall a male character in anime had legit nipples it was Spike in Cowboy Bebop. I just don't get it, there was a time when male nipples existed freely in anime but now it is no nipples. I'm not looking for an answer, just scratching my head that this is a line that can't be crossed in more recent series. [cough cough] Golden Kamuy [cough cough].

Anyhoo, I've gotten off course . . .

Five episodes into the series, I'm enjoying it. The color is fun, I like the dynamic panels, extra effects and the much more manga adjacent feeling. The manga is so bonkers and over the top and this anime really seems to capture it well. Since it is a silly manga the gags can be approached from a number of different ways. It appears that someone on the staff is a huge Kuno fan based on his even more dramatic entrance in this version.

The biggest disappointment with this first season is we will only get to the introduction of Shampoo - I'm going to have to wait awhile for my gal Ukyo to appear with her giant spatula.

Welp, that's all at the moment for comments on the 2024 version. I'm also reading the manga currently, past where I had gotten with my first edition books. It continues to be hilarious and I'm currently in the middle of the 'food fu' arc which is a great snapshot of how the series captures that weird sense of humor.

Each to their own, though I would like to add that it isn't "manipulative gaslighting" to see certain characters and their interactions through queercoded lenses and talk about it so much. I understand op's pov about how some stsg are annoying and send death threats to people who just want to have fun and ship gojo with whichever character they want because at the end of the day they're all fictional!! Let people think however they want and ship whoever they wish to!! But this argument also coexists with let stsg shippers make theories and art and memes and have fun without shitting on them so much just because you think it isn't canon. Fandom interactions are what makes a fandom, and fandom is a backbone of the series, I am sorry but that's the truth! You cannot separate fandom and the manga but sure you can choose not to interact or look away if it isn't what you like. And yes it's not canon but if a person chooses to view their interactions through queercoded lenses it's on them and you don't have any say in that. The artists and writers who take these characters base their art/fics around them are doing so because they love it, it can be delusional for you but that's how fandoms work, you take the characters and the interactions you like and choose to add onto that and it's fun!! Most fandoms do this, why do you think there are so many fix it, time travel, hurt-comfort fics? Sure it might get annoying because that's the most prevalent and loud part of this fandom and yes I agree shoko didn't get enough screentime and gege really fumbled with her (let's be honest he fumbled with all the potential his female characters had) but there are still some of us who root for them and wish to see more of her but thinking that just having more interactions of the trio would somehow "force" us to focus on "her dynamic with other characters in a meaningful way" as an argument against how that'd lessen the focus on ship is honestly very dumb. We have people dissecting the single panels of geto/shoko and gojo/shoko interactions, we have pages of thesis on "i was there too" panel, we have people writing and wondering about how everything effected her and we have art of her with both of them together, upon that if we had more of the trio the fandom would've simply shifted their focus on the trio+the ship, neither is going to lessen the focus on other. Her presence wouldn't take away but rather add more and fleshen out more personalities and quirks which inevitably would've led to more stsg content, just think about it. At the end of the day people who feel strongly about certain topics will continue to feel them and a stranger on internet stating their opinions isn't going to persuade them to do the otherwise easily, so think what you will!
